History, Mission, and Vision Of Operation Prom Girl
Operation Prom Girl was founded in Wildomar- Riverside County in Southern California by Los Angeles makeup artist, Dawn Schultz, who had a vision to help girls who could not afford the prom obtain assistance with their dress, and have their hair and makeup done.
Dawn wanted to give back to girls in the community what she was blessed with several years prior, when as a single mother, her own daughter received assistance from a woman who made sure her daughter attended her prom and provided the items so she was able to attend this “ rite of passage” which is so special for every high school girl to be able to experience.
While it began as an idea to help a handful of girls, the founder placed ads for donations on social media and within weeks found herself with nearly 100 dresses, donated by the new community that she had recently moved to. The first year, 16 girls were assisted. Since then we have held an annual event and approximately 1k girls have been assisted to date.
We operate year-round, assisting with military balls and partnering with our communities to assist any high school girl with a hardship or special circumstance. These young women are given the opportunity to attend a free amazing day event where they are loved, empowered, provided with lunch, resources, referrals and career opportunities, fashion show, and of course a dress and many other goodies to assist her on her big day. While we primarily assist high school-aged clients, we also have been blessed with the opportunity to develop partnerships with other programs and organizations where we can provide our services.
The following are a few of the opportunities we have had to provide dresses, shoes, and other services to the community:
~Operation Makeover ( female veterans and military wives)
~Wounded Warriors Project @ Camp Pendleton (US Military)
~Miss Marvelous Pageant (prom for special needs girls)
~Temecula Fashion Week (fundraiser program and fashion show)
~Before the Transition ( program for low income and previously incarcerated women who are on a pathway to success through empowerment and job assistance training/placement)
~ Tim Tebow Foundation’s ” A Night To Shine” -prom for special needs teens
~NAFE ( National Association Of Female Executives)
~Air Of Light (military women)
Operation Prom Girl is much more than a dress, it is an experience. The founder’s vision includes a physical showroom and office location large enough to hold workshops and counseling services, mind, body, and spirit healing, career counseling, resources to victims of human trafficking, domestic violence, and other crisis matters, and art for healing through music, painting, and poetry, We have faith we can move forward with helping more young women and continue our mission, growing and expanding our demographics and geographic locations with appropriate funding and support.
